Word Count tells you how long a text is: words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, lines and an estimated reading time. Useful when an essay, an application form or a social post has a limit and you need to know where you stand.
The counting happens in your browser the moment you run it — the text is not sent anywhere and no account is needed. Words are counted as runs of characters between spaces, so a Persian word joined with a half-space (such as «میشود») counts as one word; reading time assumes 200 words a minute.
How to use
Paste or type your text into the box.
Run it — the counts appear instantly.
Read the numbers or download them as a .txt file; after editing your text, run it again to recount.
FAQ
How are words counted?
Every group of characters separated by spaces or line breaks is one word, so numbers and stand-alone symbols count too, and a hyphenated word like 'e-mail' counts once. In Persian, two parts joined with a half-space count as one word; written with a normal space they count as two.
Do characters include spaces?
You get both: the total including spaces and line breaks, and the count without any whitespace. Most forms with a character limit mean the total including spaces. An emoji can count as two characters, as it does in many online forms.
How is the reading time worked out?
It is the word count divided by 200 words per minute, rounded, with a minimum of one minute — a typical pace for reading on screen. Dense or technical text takes longer.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The count runs in your browser with plain JavaScript, so it also suits drafts you would not want to paste into an online service.
